Cold Winter, lithograph, 1965

Works on Paper by Adolf Dehn

from the Bequest of Virginia Dehn

April 11 - August 3, 2008

The Minnesota born artist, Adolf Dehn, was one of the great masters of lithography. He lived and studied in Paris, Austria, and Germany during the 1920’s, and his art reflected the avant-garde art styles of Europe. Upon returning to America in the 1930’s, he created lithographs featuring American Scene imagery. His handsome color lithographs from the 1950’s exhibit an elegant "retro" quality. Dehn was a social satirist and many of his artworks reflect his biting sense of humor. The artworks in this exhibition are original prints and drawings that form part of a collection of art by Adolf Dehn that was donated to the Visual Arts Center as a bequest by the artist’s widow, Virginia Dehn.
