Explore A New Temporary Exhibition, Forever Forest, at the Washington Pavilion

February 3, 2020

Sioux Falls, SD – The interactive exhibit explaining the forest’s connection with children’s everyday lives, Forever Forest, is now open at the Kirby Science Discovery Center in the Washington Pavilion.

The 2,000-square-foot Forever Forest exhibition is designed to teach children and adults how their everyday lives are connected to forests, through the ways they live, work and play. Forever Forest includes areas focused on sustainable harvesting, lumber transportation and products made from wood.

Exhibit highlights include:

•    A treetop climber with a slide and protective netting allows children to climb among the trees
•    All aboard the kid-size replica of a Union Pacific train engine to show how products move across the country
•    Mini grapple skidders available for kids to operate and move small replica logs
•    A pretend saw mill demonstrates how wood is used in many other products
•    Interactive play table with toy cars, trains and movable buildings and trees
•    A miniature home under construction in which children can help finish by adding siding, molding and other details

Forever Forest will ignite your imagination, inspire your creativity and invite curiosity! Come and experience a unique opportunity to engage in the forest and all it provides,” said Jason Folkerts, Director of Museums.

“We want to continue to enhance the visitor’s experience at the Washington Pavilion by bringing in new, high-quality exhibitions to our community,” explains Darrin Smith, President and CEO. “Forever Forest is a great example of a fun, immersive exhibit that will appeal to children and adults alike.”

The national touring exhibition of Forever Forest is presented by Union Pacific Foundation and supported by the North American Wholesale Lumber Association. It is the result of an official partnership with the Hardwood Forest Foundation and Omaha Children’s Museum established to help transform the educational kit, “The Truth About Trees,” into an immersive and engaging learning experience.

Washington Pavilion members can visit the temporary exhibition for free. Daily admission rates apply for non-members. For more information, call the Box Office at 605-367-6000 or visit washingtonpavilion.org.
