Teachers As Artists

Now–May 31

University Gallery

Sioux Falls Art Educators Exhibition

This exhibition highlights the creative practices of K–12 art educators from the Sioux Falls Public School District. While these individuals are often recognized for their roles as teachers, this exhibition centers them as practicing artists and creative professionals.

Art education supports critical thinking, creative problem-solving and meaningful self-expression. These skills contribute to academic learning, emotional development and civic engagement. Art educators model these ways of thinking every day as they guide students through observation, experimentation and revision. Their work plays a vital role in the education of students across Sioux Falls.

However, the personal artistic practices of educators are often unseen. By presenting their artwork in a museum setting, this exhibition affirms that teaching art and making art are deeply connected. For students and the broader community, seeing teachers as working artists reinforces the importance of arts education and highlights creativity as a lifelong pursuit.

This exhibition was made possible in partnership with the City of Sioux Falls.
