In this Exhibition

Theatre, at its core, is collaboration — a dynamic fusion of voices, ideas and artistry. For more than five decades, Prairie Repertory Theatre has embodied this spirit, bringing the magic of live performance to audiences across South Dakota. This exhibition honors 54 years of artistic dedication, creative risk-taking and community connection.

Through photographs, videos, costume sketches and behind-the-scenes materials, we explore both the history and the process of theatre-making. A detailed timeline traces the company’s journey from its founding to its most beloved productions. The Making of a Musical offers an inside look at how a show comes to life — from casting and early design concepts to final rehearsals. And a selection of original costumes highlights the imagination and craftsmanship that shape each performance.

In theatre, no single voice stands alone. Directors guide, choreographers shape movement, actors bring characters to life and designers build entire worlds. But it is in the space between — in the collaboration among many — that the true magic unfolds. This exhibition invites you to witness that shared creative effort, and to reflect on the enduring power of theatre to inspire, challenge and connect us all.
