Lallycooler Music Festival Photography as Contemporary Art
Lallycooler is more than a music festival. It is a shared communal experience rooted in music, place and connection. Its inaugural year in 2025 marked the beginning of a new cultural tradition in Sioux Falls, one that continues to grow and evolve. As Lallycooler Music Festival returns this summer with a new lineup and renewed energy, this art exhibition reflects on that first year while looking ahead to what comes next.
The photographs featured in this exhibition present Lallycooler not simply as an event, but as a lived, fleeting experience. While music festival photography is often viewed as purely documentary, these images demonstrate how the medium also functions as an artistic practice. Through intentional choices of framing, timing, perspective and light, the photographer interprets performance, audience and atmosphere, capturing moments that exist only once.
By freezing moments that would otherwise disappear, the photographs transform sound, movement and collective energy into visual form. They preserve not only what happened, but what it felt like to be there at the beginning of something still unfolding in Sioux Falls’ cultural landscape.
Lallycooler Music Festival returns to Sioux Falls July 10–11, 2026. It is the coolest thing you’ll do all summer. Buy your festival pass now and be a part of the experience!
