Hands-On STEAM Activities for Kids

Parents looking for hands-on STEAM activities for kids in Sioux Falls will find an easy, engaging stop in Jack’s Imagination Lab. Designed with kids in mind, this interactive space lets children explore science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through simple, hands-on experiences that feel more like play than schoolwork.

Located inside the Kirby Science Discovery Center near the Wells Fargo CineDome and Sweetman Planetarium, the lab fits naturally into a museum visit. It’s a great place for kids to reset, explore and stay curious, whether you’re planning a full day or stopping by between exhibits. Because activities rotate, there’s often something new to discover, even for repeat visitors.

What Families Can Expect During Their Visit

Inside the lab, children can explore a model of the Coughlin Campanile from South Dakota State University, along with interactive iPads featuring short videos and digital content. A self-guided activity display encourages kids to look closely, make connections and move through the space at their own pace.

Jack’s Imagination Lab is built around open-ended learning. There are no instructions to follow and no right or wrong answers. Instead, kids are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas and think creatively in a relaxed environment. Parents can step back while kids engage independently or explore alongside them.

For families seeking hands-on STEAM activities for kids in Sioux Falls, Jack’s Imagination Lab offers meaningful learning that feels natural, flexible and fun during a museum visit.
