Breakthrough ’27: A Sioux Falls Emerging Artist Showcase

Submissions Open | In-Person Drop-Off Oct. 23, Nov. 13 and Nov. 27

Sioux Falls Stage & Gallery invites emerging Sioux Falls-area artists to submit work for Breakthrough ’27: A Sioux Falls Emerging Artist Showcase, on view Dec. 18, 2026–March 28, 2027, in the Everist Gallery at the Visual Arts Center.

The exhibition is designed to give artists on the rise an opportunity to showcase their work. There is no cost to participate, and all eligible artwork that meets the submission and content guidelines will be accepted while space remains available.

Who Can Submit?

Artists must:

  • Live within a 10-mile radius of Sioux Falls city limits
  • Have never previously had a solo exhibition at the Visual Arts Center
  • Submit one artwork
  • Submit artwork no larger than 50 x 50 inches and no heavier than 75 pounds
  • Deliver artwork ready to install
  • Meet all exhibition content guidelines Breakthrough Call for Art 2027

All artistic mediums are welcome, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, digital art and more.

How to Submit

Artwork must be submitted in person. Online submissions will not be accepted.

Bring your artwork and completed submission form to the Visual Arts Center front desk on the second floor of the Washington Pavilion during one of these drop-off dates:

Friday, Oct. 23 | 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 13 | 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 27 | 10 a.m.–4 p.m. | Final opportunity

Artists may print the submission form in advance or complete one when dropping off their artwork.

Cash Awards

Best in Show | $500
Breakthrough | $200
Sioux Falls Spirit | $200

Awards will be presented during the Sioux Falls Stage & Gallery event and artist reception on Feb. 18.

Content Guidelines

Because the exhibition will be open to visitors of all ages, artwork must be appropriate for a general audience, including young children. Artwork should avoid explicit nudity or sexual content, graphic violence or disturbing imagery, profanity or overtly mature themes and overly political or religious content.
