Handel’s “Water Music Suite No. 1” and Rameau’s “Suite from Les Boréades” fill the Mary W. Sommervold Hall, a perfect setting to hear the ornate, dramatic stylings of this era. Grażyna Bacewicz’s neoclassical Concerto for String Orchestra is considered her finest work. SDSO’s own principal bassoonist, John Tomkins also takes center stage for Françaix’s charming Divertissement for Bassoon and String Orchestra.
