Spotlight Theatre Company is now accepting audition sign-ups for summer camp productions and the Plays for Living program, as well as applications for the Dakota News Now Media Camp.

Audition Dates and Deadlines

  • Pippin (Summer Musical Theatre Camp)
    In-person auditions: Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Macbeth (Summer Shakespeare Camp) and Plays for Living
    Video auditions due by Saturday, March 28

Casting decisions will be communicated by April 11 via the email address provided on the audition form.

Summer Camp Audition Requirements

Musical Theatre Camp at the Orpheum Theatre Center: PIPPIN

  • Prepare a short musical theatre vocal selection (16 bars or no more than one minute) with accompaniment, either recorded or piano.
  • Learn and perform the provided choreography.
  • Complete the audition form to select an audition time slot.

Shakespeare Camp at Augustana University: MACBETH

  • Choose one of the provided monologues to memorize and perform.
  • Video auditions must be uploaded to a video platform of your choice and submitted via link on the audition form.
  • Videos must be public or unlisted with viewing access enabled.

Program Details

Musical Theatre Summer Camp: PIPPIN

  • Ages: 14–18
  • Auditions: In person, Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Rehearsals/camp dates: July 6–10 and July 13–17, Monday–Friday, 1–6 p.m.
  • Performances: July 17 at 7 p.m.; July 18 at 2 and 7 p.m.
  • Tuition: $337.50 plus tax (Pavilion members); $375 plus tax (nonmembers)
  • Location: Orpheum Theatre Center

Shakespeare Summer Camp: MACBETH

  • Ages: 14–18
  • Auditions: Video only, due Saturday, March 28
  • Rehearsals/camp dates: June 1–5 and June 8–12, Monday–Friday, 1–4 p.m.
  • Performances: June 12 at 7 p.m.; June 13 at 7 p.m.
  • Tuition: $210.60 plus tax (Pavilion members); $234 plus tax (nonmembers)
  • Location: Augustana University

Plays for Living Theatre Company: 2026–27

  • Ages: 13–18
  • Auditions: Video only, due Saturday, March 28
  • Rehearsals and performances take place late summer and throughout the school year.
  • Tuition: $90 plus tax (Pavilion members); $100 plus tax (nonmembers)

Students auditioning for PIPPIN or MACBETH do not need to submit an additional audition for Plays for Living. Simply indicate this on the audition form. Students auditioning only for Plays for Living will perform one of the provided monologues. Memorization is strongly encouraged.

Through Plays for Living, Spotlight Theatre Company students perform in the community to educate and engage audiences around sensitive social issues. Performance hours may be applied toward National Honor Society community service requirements.

Dakota News Now Media Camp (Audition-Based Summer Camp)

Overview

In partnership with Dakota News Now, the Washington Pavilion offers a Summer Media Camp for high school students interested in broadcasting, journalism and media production.

Details

  • Dates: June 8–12, 2026
  • Location: Washington Pavilion and Dakota News Now studio
  • Ages: 14–18
  • Cost: Free for selected students, thanks to the generosity of Dakota News Now

Ten students will be selected based on application materials and audition submissions.

Audition Requirements

Applicants must submit a recorded audition presenting a mock news story of their own creation, no longer than three minutes. Recordings may be submitted as video files or links and must be public or unlisted with viewing access enabled.

Camp Experience

Students will explore interviewing, writing, production and on-air presentation. The camp culminates in the creation of a five-minute newscast that will air on Dakota News Now.
