Visual Arts Center
Current Exhibitions
The Visual Arts Center is South Dakota’s largest art museum, right here in downtown Sioux Falls. Eight spacious art galleries exhibit works from local creators and international art legends, as well as a focus on Northern Plains Tribal art. The Visual Arts Center, accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, is dedicated to building, preserving and conserving its collections for both South Dakotans and worldwide audiences. New exhibitions are installed frequently, and community lectures and artist receptions are held throughout the year.

The Heartland Horizons exhibition captures the region’s essence through the work of thirty artists.

Just Having Pie
This exhibition titled “Just Having Pie” reflects John Henry Peter’s transformative conversation with artist Hugh Kappel.

Symphōnía
Explore Mollie Hosmer-Dillard’s dynamic exhibition of intricate paintings that reimagine nature through abstract techniques in Symphōnía.

Digital Daydreams
“Digital Daydreams” showcases the creativity of students who explored digital art, culture and storytelling through a media program.

The People of West River: Photography by Greg Latza
Greg Latza latest photography book, The People of West River: Photography by Greg Latza, showcases ranch culture in western South Dakota.

SculptureWalk Visitor Center
The Washington Pavilion is honored to host the SculptureWalk Visitor Center in our second floor lobby near the entrance to the Visual Arts Center. Start your SculptureWalk journey there by learning more about the organization’s more than 20-year history. Children’s Studio
Explore our fun creative space where kids can color, play with chalk and explore their inner artist in an art-centric maker space.
The Children’s Studio is open during Visual Arts Center regular hours.
Paladino Hohm Sculpture Garden
The sculpture garden features several sculptures, a water fountain, native South Dakota plants and grasses, casual seating and an area for small outdoor performances.
Art Consulting
The Visual Arts Center at the Washington Pavilion offers comprehensive art consulting services, aimed at transforming spaces into visually impactful environments that go beyond aesthetics to inspire creativity and enrich life. Our seasoned experts are available to guide individuals, businesses and public institutions through the process of curating their spaces with carefully selected artworks.
The Art Wall
A new collaborative project between the Washington Pavilion, Downtown Sioux Falls, local artists and the 300 Building. Located in the alley on the east side of 6th & Dakota, this wall will showcase rotating works of art that reflect community stories, global issues and personal expression. This living wall will constantly evolve — inviting curiosity, creativity and connection right in the heart of downtown.
Permanent Collection
The Visual Arts Center’s Permanent Collection is made up of over 1,600 artworks featuring prominent collections of work by Adolf Dehn, Mark McGinnis and Frogman’s Press, as well as highlights of South Dakota masters and a distinguished collection of Tribal Art.
